keep your nerves to yourself

Tomorrow is Opie’s first ever recital.

I think at this point I am significantly more nervous than she is. And I hope it stays that way.

She has been practicing; she is reasonably well prepared for the amount of time she’s had. She doesn’t seem to be worried or distressed. She did take a shower without complaint – maybe that was a sign.

On the other hand, I hear the wrong notes, the lagging from tempo, the gaps when she can’t get the oboe to play. And I fret.

But I’ve tried so hard not to let Obie know my worries.

It’s only her first recital. She’s going to do a great job. And she will be helped if she thinks that in her heart, rather than being infected by my nerves.
